Indigo Teapot - ASA NO ITO is inspired by the motif of linen threads, with distinctive, uneven lines that create a striking impression. ASA means “linen” and ITO means “thread” in Japanese. The base of the pot and its charming round handle are designed as if wrapped in strands of linen. Painted in deep indigo (GOSU) and warm brown (SABI), both traditional colors of Hasami Yaki, the linen thread design offers a refreshing contrast against the pure white porcelain.

The teapot combines a functional form with finely carved details, making it equally suitable for entertaining guests or enjoying a casual cup of tea at home. Its large handle and thoughtfully designed lid, which is easy to steady with just one finger, allow for smooth one-handed pouring. The lid can also be hooked onto the rim of the pot for convenience when adding tea leaves or hot water. Hasami Yaki

Hasami Yaki, crafted in Hasami Town in northern Nagasaki, has been cherished for over 400 years. Known for the refined beauty of its white porcelain and the delicate blue hand-painting using GOSU, Hasami-ware continues to evolve with the times while remaining the largest ceramics production center in Nagasaki today.

Directions

- It is best to wash this item using only tepid water or mild chlorine-free dishwashing detergent.
- If necessary, you may occasionally use chlorine detergent. In that case, after using the chlorine detergent, we recommend you boil this item in water to remove the chlorine smell.
- When turning the Kyusu to pour tea, you must hold the lid in place with your finger, otherwise the lid could fall off the pot and possibly get damaged. This is the usual way to pour tea with a Kyusu.
- A clear plastic guard is placed over the tip of the Kyusu spout to protect the spout from breakage during transport. Before use, please remove the plastic guard.
- An air hole is intentionally placed in the handle as part of the manufacturing process. When using a dishwasher or soaking the teapot in water, liquid may enter through this hole. If the teapot is used without thoroughly drying, water may leak out from the hole during use.
- Due to the carving, painting, and firing processes, variations in color, uneven tones, or crystal-like patterns caused by the pigments may occur. These differences are more noticeable compared to other series. Please understand that such variations are inherent to pottery and do not indicate defects.
