The NOTO Blue - NAGARE tea glass combines crystal-clear glass with a deep ocean-blue hue, creating a refreshing yet sophisticated design unlike any other. Each flowing contour is carefully shaped by hand, allowing the glass to capture light and cast beautiful shadows. Designed with the concept that "even its shadow should be beautiful," this handcrafted piece reveals a different expression depending on the light and the angle from which it is viewed.

NOTO refers to the Noto Peninsula and the surrounding region of Ishikawa Prefecture, where this glass is handcrafted. Surrounded by the sea and blessed with abundant nature, the Noto Peninsula has nurtured countless forms of life since ancient times. Over millions of years, marine algae and organic matter accumulated on the seabed and gradually fossilized into diatomaceous earth, forming the peninsula itself. Diatomaceous earth contains a high concentration of silica, the primary ingredient in glass. Trace amounts of naturally occurring minerals within the material give the glass its gentle yet profound blue color, reminiscent of the beautiful sea surrounding Noto.

The word NAGARE means flow in Japanese, describing the movement of water or air, as well as the continuous passage of time. True to its name, the graceful curves of this glass evoke the powerful flow of a mountain stream and the gentle currents of the sea surrounding the Noto Peninsula. At the same time, they symbolize the immense passage of time through which the diatomaceous earth - the very material that inspires this glass - was formed.

The rich blue color at the base resembles waves shimmering on the surface of the sea, while the elegant curves create a cool, refined appearance. Each glass reflects the exceptional craftsmanship of skilled artisans, resulting in a piece that is both elegant and practical.

This beautiful tea glass is handmade at NOTOJIMA Glass Studio, and each piece is subtly unique in color, pattern, and shape. No two are exactly alike, giving each glass its own distinctive character.

Located on NOTOJIMA, a quiet island surrounded by the sea, the studio accepts aspiring artisans who want to learn glassmaking techniques and trains glass artists who are active in various parts of Japan.
