This is limited edition only available in spring and summer season.
This Matcha bowl is crafted in Shigaraki, one of Japan’s six ancient kilns, renowned for the natural beauty and texture of its clay. The surface features TOBIKANNA, a traditional trimming technique that creates rhythmic carved patterns as the bowl is shaped on the potter’s wheel, evoking gentle ripples across water.
The pale blue glaze, called AOYU, is inspired by the color of Biidoro glass. Fine crackles known as KANNYU appear as the glaze cools, forming delicate patterns that make every bowl uniquely beautiful. To enhance this effect, the artist applies the glaze more thickly at the center and rim, creating deeper tones that resemble the quiet depth of a rippling lake.
The wide, open form was originally designed to create a sense of coolness during the summer tea ceremony. Crafted by tea master and potter Eizan Okuda, the bowl balances elegance with functionality, fitting naturally in both hands while offering a serene and refined Matcha experience.
This Starter Set includes a Matcha Bowl (Matcha Chawan), Bamboo Whisk (Chasen) with 80 bristles, Whisk Keeper (Kusenaoshi), and Matcha Spoon (Chashaku). We chose TOBIKANNA ZIMON AOYU handcrafted Matcha Bowl for this Starter Set. It is the most standard shape and size, so that it is also perfect for beginners. The Bamboo Whisk has 80 bristles, and therefore can make a very nice lather. Whisk Keeper helps Bamboo Whisk last longer.
We recommend that you get the bamboo whisk wet just before you use it. The bamboo whisk is susceptible to dry conditions.
If you would like to add other important tea ware, we suggest our Matcha Sifter or Hand Sifter. It is useful though not essential. Sifting Matcha before preparation is an important step to avoid lumps and create a rich flavor.
With this set, you have everything essential to correctly prepare Matcha, so you can enjoy an authentic and flavorful bowl of Matcha!
