This Matcha bowl features a playful interpretation of CHADAMARI, a uniquely Japanese aesthetic element found at the center of a tea bowl. Traditionally, the CHADAMARI is a small recessed area where the last drops of tea gather after drinking, allowing the bowl to be admired in its full beauty. In this piece, the artists of Touken Kiln have shaped the CHADAMARI into a delicate SAKURA motif, adding a touch of creativity and charm.

The bowl’s smaller size is inspired by NODATE, the tradition of enjoying Matcha outdoors. It fits comfortably in the hand while remaining fully functional with a standard Chasen. Its versatile size also makes it suitable as a cafe au lait bowl or teacup.

This Starter Set includes a Matcha Bowl (Matcha Chawan), Bamboo Whisk (Chasen) with 80 bristles, Whisk Keeper (Kusenaoshi), and Matcha Spoon (Chashaku). We chose CHADAMARI - SAKURA handcrafted Matcha Bowl for this Starter Set. It is the NODATE Matcha bowl size, so that it is also perfect for beginners. The Bamboo Whisk has 80 bristles, and therefore can make a very nice lather. Whisk Keeper helps Bamboo Whisk last longer.

We recommend that you get the bamboo whisk wet just before you use it. The bamboo whisk is susceptible to dry conditions.

If you would like to add other important tea ware, we suggest our Matcha Sifter or Hand Sifter. It is useful though not essential. Sifting Matcha before preparation is an important step to avoid lumps and create a rich flavor.
