The FUROSHIKI wrapping fabric is suitable to wrap tea or larger size items, such as tea sets and teaware sets, two bottles of wine, or even a 7-inch birthday cake packed in a cake box. It is of course reusable and perfect for wrapping anything from a bento lunchbox to larger items, like an 18-inch laptop PC. It can be used as a decorative wall hanging, table cloth, scarf, and so on. It depends on your idea.

FUROSHIKI is very useful fabric which had traditionally been used for wrapping since ancient times until modern times in Japan. It was not only useful but also special because wrapping anything was thought to remove negative vibes. Even today, special gifts are wrapped in FUROSHIKI.

HITTA means Japanese traditional tie-dyeing method, and UME means plum in Japanese. HITTA technique is one of the famous patterns used in KIMONO fabric. Plums which are various in sizes bloom on the pale purple color rayon textile. Some flowers such as chrysanthemum, camellia and cherry blossoms are also gracefully decorated in plum petals.

Wrapping Instruction

There are many traditional wrapping methods. We introduce the most useful 4 or 5 methods. Please find below reference pictures on the left side photo gallery.

A: This is the simple wrapping method called HIRA wrapping, meaning "flat" in Japanese. The image shows an 18-inch laptop PC wrapped in this fabric.
B: The most basic wrapping methods are called OTSUKAI wrapping and KAKUSHI wrapping, which are respectively called "gift" and "hiding" in Japanese. KAKUSHI wrapping is hiding the knot. The image shows a square box, size 11.4inch x 8.66inch x 4.92inch (29cm x 22cm x 12.5cm), wrapped by this fabric.
C: This method is useful to wrap spindly items like two wine bottles or one ISSHOH-BIN, which is Japanese sake bottles of 1.8 liters. This is called BIN wrapping, meaning "bottle."
D: This method is useful to wrap round items or a few small items together. This is called SUIKA wrapping, meaning "watermelon."

- You may hand wash in water but please do NOT use detergent.
- This FUROSHIKI fabric is not machine washable. Please wash by hand carefully and delicately when FUROSHIKI gets dirty.
- Please do NOT use chlorine bleaching agent to wash.
