KOBIKI of this name means glazing white color on the pottery, and KARAKUSA means arabesque pattern in Japanese. This Yunomi teacup is coated with glaze made from white clay, and KARAKUSA arabesque pattern is colorfully and rhythmically designed on the upper side. On the lower side, the technique called INKA patterns are stamped. Even though there are two different techniques, the contrast is well harmonized into one teacup.
Curved KARAKUSA patterns are painted on the upper side of each Yunomi as if they are fluttering lightly in the breeze. Lavender and vermillion color KARAKUSA grass is decorated, and airy patterns are depicted gracefully in the simple design and color.
KOBIKI is one of the Japanese traditional pottery techniques, coating with glaze made from white clay. Unevenness of white color KOBIKI glaze coating creates the WABI SABI atmosphere. Brownish gray color base glaze and brown color of the clay appears through uneven KOBIKI glaze.
The flower patterns by INKA technique are applied to the exterior of the cup, and each flower pattern is impressed uniquely. KUSHIME pattern, marking by comb, is augmented below the flower stamps. These delicate comb lines are not only well reflected on the simple glazing, but also well matched to the rhythmical KARAKUSA patterns.
The curve at the mouth not only brings gentle accent to the form but also fulfills a role to enhance the tea flavor when your mouth touches the Yunomi. /p>
Even though this Yunomi teacup has different and contrasting expressions between the upper and lower sides, KOBIKI glazing technique unifies them as one simple yet graceful teacup. Considering the quality, this teacup is extremely reasonable in price.
