HANA of this name means flower and KESSHO means crystal in Japanese. This porcelain Yunomi creates an aura of unique pleasant cooling sensation. It is said that it is very difficult for porcelain or earthenware to create a cooling sensation.

This item is finished by the technique called crystal glaze. The technique is to mix certain metal substances into a clear glaze creating the pattern like crystal on the surface by a chemical reaction which occurs during the heating process in the kiln. Crystal glaze pattern like flower is quite elegant, and smooth glossy porcelain atmosphere is exquisite.

The teacup rim is beautifully flared, middle of side is full, and bottom is tucked. The curve from the rim to base is not only beautiful, but also lovely to hold in your hands. The form, matching with HANA KESSHO crystal glaze, also helps to create the unique aura.

To heat crystal glaze porcelain, extremely delicate and sensitive temperature management in the kiln is required. In modern earthenware and porcelain industry, temperature management in the kiln is in 10C (18F) increments at best. Needless to say, even in the same kiln, temperature is different by location. However, to produce a stable crystal glaze porcelain, the temperature in the kiln must be controlled in 1C (1.8F) increments. So, crystal glaze porcelain has an extremely low yield ratio and can be quite expensive to create.

Tohan Dobuchi has continuously made efforts to improve or innovate kiln, glaze, and so on for decades. His continuous efforts have enabled the production of beautiful crystal glaze porcelain at a reasonable price.

The glaze color of SHIROJI AO, which calms the mind, refers to the image of a wave with white foam. Blue color at the bottom changes to white color at the rim gradually and beautifully. This gradation reminds us of the summer ocean. The farther we look into the ocean, the deeper the blue, and we can feel as if its effect creates the sound of the water ripples. Its color variation adds coolness in summer.

HANA KESSHO Flared Yunomi has an aura of unique pleasant cooling sensation. The sensation is brought by the soothing crystal glaze pattern and smooth glossy porcelain. It is certain to bring not only a cooling green moment on hot summer days in Japan but also to enhance the elegant atmosphere in all seasons around the world.
