KIIRABO - HARU no MOEGI Starter Set

This is limited edition only available in Spring and Summer season.

This matcha bowl belongs to the traditional IRABO style, introduced to Japan in the 16th–17th century. IRABO bowls are known for their distinctive slightly rough texture, created by sand mixed into the clay, giving the surface a natural and tactile character.

The bowl is crafted in Shigaraki, one of Japan’s six ancient kilns, celebrated for its earthy clay and rustic aesthetic. Its form, known as MASUGATA, is inspired by the traditional wooden masu box once used to measure rice in Japan.

Created by the artisan Eizan Okuda, the bowl reflects careful attention to balance, usability, and glaze expression. The rim is finished with BEEDORO, a deep green traditional Shigaraki glaze, creating a smooth touch when drinking matcha while adding a vibrant contrast to the textured clay.

This Starter Set includes a Matcha Bowl (Matcha Chawan), Bamboo Whisk (Chasen) with 80 bristles, Whisk Keeper (Kusenaoshi), and Matcha Spoon (Chashaku). We chose KIIRABO - HARU no MOEGI handcrafted Matcha Bowl for this Starter Set. It is the most standard shape and size, so that it is also perfect for beginners. The Bamboo Whisk has 80 bristles, and therefore can make a very nice lather. Whisk Keeper helps Bamboo Whisk last longer.

We recommend that you get the bamboo whisk wet just before you use it. The bamboo whisk is susceptible to dry conditions.

If you would like to add other important tea ware, we suggest our Matcha Sifter or Hand Sifter. It is useful though not essential. Sifting Matcha before preparation is an important step to avoid lumps and create a rich flavor.

With this set, you have everything essential to correctly prepare Matcha, so you can enjoy an authentic and flavorful bowl of Matcha!

Matcha Bowl
- It is best to wash this item using only tepid water or mild chlorine-free dish washing detergent.
- After use, please dry thoroughly. Otherwise, it could possibly get moldy.
- If necessary, you may occasionally use a chlorine detergent. In that case, after using the chlorine detergent, we recommend you boil this item in water to remove the chlorine smell.
- Do not wash in a dish washing machine.

Bamboo Whisk
The bamboo whisk is susceptible to dry conditions.
- Wet the tip of the bamboo bristles with water before each use, prior to whisking. It prevents breakage during whisking because water makes the bamboo bristles more flexible and strong.
- The handle can also develop a thin hairline crack due to dry conditions. It is not uncommon for bamboo to crack in dry conditions; this is simply a natural characteristic of bamboo. Even if the handle develops a thin hairline crack, it should not affect the usability. We recommend you continue to use the whisk as long as it is usable. If your region is extremely dry and you would like to avoid the handle cracking, we recommend that you wet the entire whisk, both handle and bristles, frequently and before each use.
- Bamboo bristle tips are strongly curled before use. The tips will usually uncurl after the first or second use; this is quite normal and expected.
