Traditional Kyo Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Kaiho Yagi

This Matcha bowl is a masterful creation by Traditional Craftsman Kaiho Yagi, a distinguished artisan of Kyoto Yaki.

Inspired by Kyoto in full spring bloom, the design captures an enchanting moment: SUZUME fluttering playfully among cascading cherry blossoms, seeking nectar beneath the soft canopy of weeping SAKURA. The scene feels alive - tender, joyful, and fleeting - like spring itself.

In traditional Japanese motifs, the pairing of SUZUME and SAKURA is considered a highly auspicious KISSHO MONYO lucky motif. It symbolizes abundant harvests, family well-being, prosperity, and good fortune. SUZUME, long associated with rice and grain, represents fruition and success. Their rounded, winter-plump form, known as FUKURA SUZUME, is believed to invite happiness and wealth. Resting gently beneath blooming SAKURA, they embody gratitude, fulfillment, and the promise of flourishing days ahead.

The softly nuanced background is achieved through Kaiho Kiln’s original ‘Turkish glaze,’ which subtly transforms into a delicate green hue through oxidation. This unique glaze gives each bowl its own one-of-a-kind expression while evoking the fresh clarity of spring. The gentle green harmonizes beautifully with the graceful weeping SAKURA of Kyoto, enhancing the poetic atmosphere of the piece.

As SUZUME and SAKURA welcome the arrival of spring, this bowl invites you to savor a quiet, reflective moment. Let the calming aroma of Matcha rise gently and experience a serene pause - where beauty and good fortune meet in the palm of your hands.
