This Matcha bowl has been thoughtfully designed to deepen the enjoyment of a uniquely Japanese aesthetic feature known as CHADAMARI. At the very center of the bowl’s interior base, a delicate cherry blossom-shaped indentation has been placed, inviting both discovery and delight.

CHADAMARI refers to the small, recessed area at the center of a tea bowl. It is considered one of the highlights when appreciating a bowl after use. Traditionally, this hollow allows the last drops of tea to gather neatly at the base once the Matcha has been finished, enhancing the bowl’s visual beauty and leaving a graceful impression.

While the CHADAMARI is typically a simple circular indentation, the artists of Touken Kiln have infused it with playful creativity by shaping it into a SAKURA motif. Through this imaginative touch, the younger generation of artisans elevates Japan’s refined cultural heritage, offering a glimpse into the promising future of Kyo Yaki craftsmanship.

The bowl is smaller, inspired by the tradition of NODATE - the practice of enjoying Matcha outdoors. It fits comfortably in the hand while remaining fully functional with a standard-sized Chasen. Its versatile size also makes it ideal as a Cafe au Lait bowl or a slightly larger teacup.

In the tea ceremony, the act of admiring the bowl after finishing the Matcha is known as HAIKEN. During this moment, one reflects on the host’s intention, the chosen utensils, and the theme of the gathering - immersing oneself in the spirit of hospitality that defines the tea experience.

Even after the last sip of Matcha, the world of tea continues to unfold in quiet beauty. You will surely appreciate the design and craftsmanship of this charming Matcha bowl, evoking a sense of discovery and delight.
