A Natsume is a traditional tea caddy used in the Japanese tea ceremony to store Matcha. The name “Natsume” originally refers to the jujube fruit, and this tea utensil came to be called so because its elegant form closely resembles the fruit itself.

Yamanaka Nuri is well known for high-quality lacquerware. Yamanaka is located in Ishikawa Prefecture and faces the Sea of Japan. It is about 200km (124miles) from Kyoto, which had been the MIYAKO capital of Japan for over a thousand years. There are many sophisticated works in Yamanaka Nuri lacquer craft.

“Mizume” refers to Mizume Zakura, a type of wood traditionally used for the base of high-quality lacquerware before coating. Although it belongs to the birch family and is not a true cherry tree, it is named for its cherry-like bark.

“Mizume” is prized for its smooth texture and beautifully refined grain, making it one of the most prestigious and rare materials for lacquerware bases. Over time and with continued use, the wood develops a warm, honey-like tone and a richer luster, enhancing its natural beauty.

“Soji” is a finish that preserves and highlights the original grain and natural color of the wood, allowing its inherent elegance to shine through. As the natural grain and original color of the wood are preserved, you can enjoy the aging process more directly.
