Review Very interesting tea. The flavor is more subtle than expected, but with a unique citrus fragrance and taste. The brew colour is a light beige, and the taste contains a delicate balance of sweetness and umami. Light and easy to drink.

It makes an excellent cold brew; this brings out the citrus taste more strongly. For this, I recommend about 5g and 200 mL chilled overnight. The flavour is strong, yet the mouthfeel is not heavy at all.

I found this a completely different tea to the Gyokuro Karigane Premium, especially at lower temperatures. I would encourage people to try both and compare them.

Though gyokuro may be bitter or unpleasant at higher temperatures, karigane contains many stems, so it can take higher brewing temperatures up to near boiling (90c). I propose an initial brew of 45-60 seconds at 85c with flash (5-10 seconds) later steeps at higher temperatures. Karigane can take 5 or 6 flash steeps this way. The taste becomes stronger and more vegetal.
