KOHZANJI CHOHJYU JINBUTSU GIGA is a painting of playing animals imitating people. Frogs, rabbits, monkeys, and other animals are humorously depicted firing crossbows, Sumo wrestling, swimming, and doing other human activities. The painting is said to be the origin of Japanese MANGA. These Yunomi feature some distinguishing and humorous compositions of frogs and rabbits from CHOHJYU JINBUTSU GIGA. The motifs are painted vividly and carefully by unquestionably expert techniques.
The outer white part has been elaborately shaved by hand, and these vertical shaving lines make the teacup light, even though it seems heavy at first glance. Furthermore, this makes it fit comfortably in the hand, creating an elegant atmosphere. The shaved parts are so thin that light can be seen through them when held up to the sun. This process can only be done by hand, and it requires the skill of a craftsman to shave evenly.
