SHOKOTSU Blue Yunomi is a unique teacup featuring a pale blue color glaze. Looking at this pale blue color, you will be drawn into an indescribably fantastic world. The rounded shape of the teacup fits nicely in the hand and is amazingly comfortable to use. We are very proud to be able to offer this rare teacup to you.
SHOKOTSU is a place in Hokkaido prefecture, located in northern Japan. Stones collected in the SHOKOTSU area are used for the glaze to create the pale blue color of this Yunomi. The artisan Kazuhiko Kudo named this teacup SHOKOTSU Blue Yunomi in honor of the land where this special stone is collected. Kazuhiko Kudo pours the glaze over the surface of the teacup and places it in the kiln. However, the desired blue color does not always appear after the teacup has been fired, making this pale blue color glaze extremely rare. All of the SHOKOTSU Blue Yunomi we are offering here at Hibiki-an have passed this difficult test, and have acquired this rare blue color, though each individual teacup has its own unique shade and density of blue.
SHOKOTSU Blue Yunomi is the original creation of Mr. Kudo. He strives to always respect the natural world around him and bridge his works to nature. For example, he digs out the clay with his own hands and a shovel. SHOKOTSU Blue Yunomi is produced by a well-balanced combination of reducing and oxidizing firings and firing times. This ware is truly his lifetime focus developed through his long-term dedication.
Mr. Kudo strives to create simple, traditional yet functional vessels. He takes his time shaping the vessel to make it more comfortable to hold in the hands. The slightly flared rim of the teacup fits the mouth perfectly when drinking tea, and also provides a lovely accent to the form of the teacup itself. Each aspect of the teacup has been carefully created by Mr. Kudo. One example of this is the slightly uneven form, deliberately expressed to add to the WABI-SABI aesthetic sense that has been cherished in Japan since ancient times.
The faintly luminous blue color of the SHOKOTSU Blue Yunomi represents the SHOKOTSU area in the far north of Japan, looking out toward the cold and icy Sea of Okhotsk, yet it evokes a mysterious warmth. The overall form of this teacup is rounded, so that it fits your fingers and palms perfectly when you pick it up, and you can feel the warmth of the earth in the teacup through the sense of touch.
This SHOKOTSU Blue Yunomi will certainly expand your green moment.
