Traditional Kyo Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Yoshinobu Kawashima in Kohzoh Kiln
This Yunomi teacup has a warm and graceful aura. The milky white color glaze creates the warm atmosphere of the earthenware teacup. Three bold white lines are vertically painted outside the teacup, and golden narrow lines create the graceful atmosphere. The grey and white colors of flower stamping add a warm accent to the teacup.
SHINO of this name means the place where this teacup was originated, and HAKUBAI means white plum in Japanese. Earthenware in SHINO was developed 400 years ago, and its technique, especially the glazing technique is superb. The color is strong white, and the thick glaze and KANNYU cracked surface creates the WABI SABI atmosphere. The uneven shape made by hand after the potter’s wheel also creates the soft and graceful atmosphere.
KANNYU, a type of glaze and technique which gives the appearance of a cracked surface, appears over the whole surface of the white glaze color. KANNYU deepens the WABI SABI atmosphere over time.
The processes used by the artisan to create this teacup require much time and effort. The techniques of glazing, and KANNYU are merged into one graceful teacup. To consider the quality of this work, it is available at a reasonable price. We are sure that you will enjoy drinking Japanese tea in this elaborate cup.
