We, Hibiki-an have collaborated with Zenshoh Yamaoka, who is the leading expert of paintings derived from masterpieces in the middle ages and acclaimed Kyo Yaki artisan, to release a series of tea cups featuring Sekka collections. Zenshoh Yamaoka chose JYUNIKAGETSU SOUKA ZU. Each painting is well decorated by his unique sense.

Sekka Kamisaka, who was born in Kyoto, is an artist and designer in recent and modern times. He is deeply committed to paintings of the RINPA school, and was greatly influenced by the design of Honami Kouetsu and Kohrin Ogata from the RINPA Japanese painting school. The characteristics of his painting are its bold composition and layout. Also, TARASHIKOMI technique, where colors are dripped into not fully dried ink is frequently used. Both techniques originate from the characteristics of RINPA school, so he is considered as the successor of RINPA (For more information, please visit What is RINPA?).

KIKU means chrysanthemum in Japanese. Chrysanthemum is one of the most well-known flowers of Japan, and can be regarded as a noble flower. It also symbolizes longevity, and the flower pattern of chrysanthemum is used everywhere in Japan, such as the cover of the passport, design of Kimono, and so on. Chrysanthemum is truly a beloved flower of Japan.

The use of colors are very bright and vivid. The auspicious red and white colors of the chrysanthemum flowers are gracefully decorated on the upper and bottom side of the tea cup. The yellow colored stamens add accent to the red and white color petals. The green color of leaves, the veins of which are colored in gold, enhance the beauty of the flowers. The space between the red and white flowers enhances its elegance even more. The colorful decoration of chrysanthemum flowers makes us feel as if the air is scented with chrysanthemum flowers.

The shape of the chrysanthemum flowers is also one of the focal points on this tea cup. The contours of a flower is drawn and the chrysanthemum flower is painted within a circle. The round shape of the flowers, which are elaborately and delicately decorated, adds to the lovely atmosphere.
In addition, the wooden fence creates the well balanced atmosphere toward the chrysanthemum flowers. The round shape of two flowers are arranged on the square shaped wooden fence. The shape contrast creates vivid and detailed images of each other. Not only the shape, but also the method of painting is different. While the fence was decorated with a simple manner, the flowers are decorated with a vivid and complicated manner. This contrast enhances the elegance of the flowers much more.

The vivid red and white colors of chrysanthemum flowers attract our attention. The square shape of the wooden fence and round shape of the chrysanthemum flowers are well contrasted on this tea cup. The exquisite space composition between the flowers creates a superb combination. We are certain that this Yunomi tea cup will enrich the taste of green tea.
