Sophisticated Kyo-Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Jyoji Nakamura at Jyoji Kiln
This Yunomi teacup has two colors of glaze; one is black, and another is vermillion. Each plump shaped teacup is coated with vermillion glaze and black glaze, casually yet delicately painted by the artist.
KURO means black, KAKI means persimmon, and YU means glazing. The name refers to the two colors of glaze used on this teacup. The persimmon color is captured in the rich vermilion glaze, which is coated over the entire surface of the teacup. The black colored glaze is then painted by brush inside and outside the teacup. The glazes work together to synergistically evoke an impressive presence.
The plump and round shape of the teacup attracts our attention even though it looks quite simple at a glance. The teacup rim is flared, middle of side is a little full, and bottom is tucked. The curve from the rim to the base is beautiful. The shape of the rim helps to enhance the flavor of the green tea. This Yunomi is finished much thinner and lighter than it looks. You will be impressed when you feel its lightness, which is a mark of quality and sophistication. This shape not only adds accent but also helps one to easily hold the Yunomi.
The powerful and dynamic colors of the glazes, energetically applied by the artist, in contrast with the plump and round shape of this teacup create a comfortable tension and evoke an impressive presence.
Specially packaged in a carton box.

(Please note that black glaze pattern is a little different in each work because of the features of the glaze.)
