Sophisticated Kyo Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Tohan Dobuchi at Tohan Kiln
Mr. Tohan Dobuchi was born in 1980 and is the fourth Tohan. The first Tohan Dobuchi opened Tohan Kiln in 1922. The current Tohan Dobuchi succeeded the fourth in 2011. Tohan Kiln's unique works, sustained by high level pottery and drawing techniques and various original elegant color glazes in over three hundred colors, are highly appreciated and viewed with awe.
HAKU BAI means white color UME plum. Plum, a traditional symbol of wintertime or early spring in Japan, is painted elegantly on the surface. Plum is a special auspicious flower in Japan because it is said that Plum is the first to bloom of all spring flowers.
The inside and background outside of these Yunomi are glazed white and finished with brush lines, which create a fine atmosphere. One can see the natural color of the clay at the rim and base, which modestly accents the beautiful white glaze.
We don't usually offer pillbox-style Yunomi like those used at SUSHI restaurants, but these Yunomi are painted quite exquisitely and elegantly, so we can't help but add them to our line. Because the capacity is rather large (225ml / 7.19fl oz), it is suitable not only to enjoy subtle flavor of high quality Japanese tea, but also to enjoy various drinks, for example, Japanese iced tea, fruit smoothie, wine or sake, or another. It depends upon your vision and preference.
This Yunomi has a graceful aura, that will change even your daily tea time to an extraordinary experience.
