Handcrafted coaster, Pair, diameter: 3.74inch (9.5cm)
MIZUHIKI is a decoration crafted from paper string and is one of the WASHI traditional Japanese paper crafts. Each string is colored, then expertly crafted into a beautiful design, which is traditionally used to decorate gift boxes to express thanks and to celebrate auspicious occasions in Japan. This time, we at Hibiki-an are honored to release these colorful and elegant MIZUHIKI coasters.
These MIZUHIKI coasters are made in the IYO area of Ehime Prefecture, Japan. Because of the rich resources and suitable climate to make MIZUHIKI, this area is very famous for its industry and is one of the two great MIZUHIKI manufacturing regions in Japan.
These MIZUHIKI coasters are made with eleven colorful paper strings. Generally, MIZUHIKI ornaments are made with seven strings, but these coasters are made with eleven strings, which is the most difficult number for crafting MIZUHIKI accessories in any other weaving method. Only a few skilled artisans are able to make this graceful shape by hand. It may appear simple at first glance, but as we look more carefully, we will find the prominent technique of its complicated structure and graceful curved MIZUHIKI lines without any space between each cord.
These MIZUHIKI coasters are made in the form of the plum flower as an auspicious object. Plum is a well-loved symbol in Japan, and a special auspicious flower in Japan because it is said that plum is the first to bloom of all spring flowers. Each coaster is elaborately made by hand.
Each string of the coaster is colored elegantly, and expresses flowers and nature from season to season. This time, we chose SAKURA from among twelve different designs. SAKURA means cherry blossom in Japanese. Soft and warm color of pink and yellow evokes the coming of spring, and enhances the graceful atmosphere during teatime.
MIZUHIKI also symbolizes the connection between two people, so these accessories not only connect you and our Japanese green tea but also connect you and your precious person.
