This porcelain Yunomi has an exquisite and graceful aura, and features remarkable yet subtle carving and delicate vivid painting, which is sustained by quite high level traditional techniques and intense effort over time. Red and white color of BOTAN peony flowers gracefully bloom on the white glaze porcelain. The description of leaves is well drawn with delicate, elegant and gracious touch and decoration. Vertically carved lines add beauty not only to the teacup but also to the peony flowers, and this carved line technique requires higher skill.

SHIKISAI means bright color, and BOTAN means peony flower in Japanese. Two peony flowers are vividly painted. The red color peony is painted very delicately, and its blooms are quite fascinating. The contour of the white color peony is colored by gold, and its contrast between golden color and white glaze creates the gracefulness of the peony flower. The red color of the stamens accents the white color peony flower.
Peony leaves are colorfully decorated in layers, and create a graceful atmosphere. Some leaves are colored in blue and green, and other are mixed with blue, green, and yellow. Those colors are well reflected on the white color glaze. The change in color of the leaves is a traditional style of painting, which makes the foliage more realistic.

Linear patterns are modestly carved in S-shaped curves from the base to the rim on the side. It was created by a skilled technique requiring the artisan to painstakingly carve away everything except this elevated area. During the process, the Yunomi starts out quite thick and is carved to thin. It is deliberate work requiring much time, effort and mature technique.

Traditional waffle pattern called KOHSHI GARA on the inside rim and outside the base is also elegantly and carefully painted in zaffer glaze according to traditional methods of highest grade Kyo Yaki porcelain. Each line is decorated by hand, and the highly elaborate and delicate patterns are extremely beautiful.

Highly skilled techniques and refined design of the peony flowers create superbly elegant porcelain Yunomi. We are certain that its beauty and elegance will enrich your green tea moment.
