HANA MISHIMA (handcrafted Matcha Bowl)

diameter: 4.72inch (12cm) height: 3.15inch (8cm), standard matcha bowl size
Traditional Kyo-Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Tohraku Morisato

This Matcha Bowl is beautiful and sublime by well balanced shape and graceful decoration. The name HANA MISHIMA means beautiful matcha bowl created by MISHIMA technique. HANA means flowers or great beauty in Japanese. This matcha bowl is created by a technique called MISHIMA. Before shaped clay is dried, patterns are marked by stamp stick carved with flowers or another similar design. It is one of the traditional techniques of Kyo Yaki.

Tohraku stamps each of his works by hand, one at a time, though many others are stamped by machine. And he uses only his own stamp sticks that he has personally designed and created. There are only a few artisans in Japan who make stamp sticks because it requires great care. So, his patterns are much more precise in detail and unique. Tohraku creatively uses several hundred kinds of stamp sticks. In this way, the atmosphere of his works becomes amazingly delicate and expressive.

Colorful patches of orange are called GOHONDE, a traditional technique that adds warmth to the atmosphere of the work. It is impossible to fully control the contrasting density of GOHONDE, so that GOHONDE is a little different in each work.

Because the form is extremely well balanced, it not only fits well in the hands but is also elegant. The well balanced shape is proof that Tohraku Morisato is an experienced artisan of the Matcha Bowl.

Considering the beauty of this work, along with the time and effort by the artist to stamp the patterns by hand, this Matcha Bowl is very reasonable in price. We are certain that this will add an extra touch of dignity and elegance to your heart.
