This Houjicha Karigane Super Premium is made from the stems of high grade tea leaves and roasted in the same way as standard Houjicha. (For roasting process of Houjicha, click here.)
Because it is roasted as Houjicha, the tea color is brown and the flavor is rich and nutty, along with being sweet and mellow, characteristic of Karigane. Karigane is known for being sweet because of Theanine, a constituent contained in Karigane which works to relax the mind and body.
The sweet aroma of this Houjicha Karigane Super Premium is more deep and mellow than our regular Houjicha Karigane and lingers in the mouth for a while because the tea stems are highest grade.
The stems are usually used for Sencha Karigane, not Houjicha Karigane.
And stems from the highest grade Matcha are added in order to create the unique noble aroma.
Then we carefully roast the stems in order to bring out the sweet and mellow aroma. If you compare this Houjicha Karigane Super Premium and regular Houjicha Karigane, the tea color is much brighter.
