Houjicha is made by roasting Sencha tea leaves over high heat. It is a brown tea with a toasted nutty flavor. Houjicha is perfect for those who enjoy coffee or black tea to try Japanese tea for the first time. Also, Houjicha is very low in caffeine.
The first three processing steps of Houjicha tea leaves are the same as for Sencha: 1) Steaming, 2) Drying and Crumpling, and 3) Shaping. But to make Houjicha, the tea goes through one special additional step: 4) Roasting. (For roasting process of Houjicha, click here.)
Because it is roasted as Houjicha, the tea color is brown and the flavor is rich and nutty. The roasted nut aroma in this Houjicha Super Premium lingers nicely for a while.
The aroma is more smooth and mellow than our regular Houjicha because the tea leaves used for this tea are young sprouts, which are not full grown. The vital energy of young sprouts brings the unique and excellent aroma by roasting.
To make this Houjicha Super Premium, we use only young sprouts. And stems from the highest grade Matcha are added in order to create the unique noble aroma. Then we carefully roast the tea in order to bring out the smooth and mellow aroma.
If you compare this Houjicha Super Premium and regular Houjicha, the tea leaves of Houjicha Super Premium are smaller and the color is brighter.
If you love Japanese tea, you are sure to delight in this unique and excellent smooth and mellow roasted nut flavor which lingers nicely for a while. It can be found only with this premium tea.
