I have been drinking Sencha Pinnacle for several years as my contemplative tea. Sometimes just before zazen meditating, sometimes quietly by itself. I must be somewhat composed before preparing the tea, then I feel very calm afterward. I think there is no point in drinking it if there is any impinging confusion or pressure. There is just enough astringency to make my mouth feel pleasantly clean, which is particularly good for meditating. I found that brewing time is crucial. 15 seconds too long makes it a bit too bitter (although still pleasing). For context, I drink 4 different teas for different needs. Long Jing Chinese green tea for a soothing drink all day (don't have a good supplier now). Lapsang strong black tea, or Chinese Pu-Ehr aged black tea as a brisk drink when others would choose coffee. Sencha Pinnacle for calm contemplation. Freshness is crucial for both green teas, and I have discarded a bag of Sencha from a local store because it was not fresh enough. |
