This container is both beautiful and highly practical. The streaks and grains of polished and lacquered wood feel soothing to look at every time I hold this container. You can feel these textures if you run your fingers along the black lacquered outer surface. What stands out the most, though, is how airtight this container is, despite being made out of wood. When you press the lid down, you can feel and hear the air being pushed out. The lid does not wiggle or wobble in the slightest. It is actually *quite* difficult to open the container if you push down the lid all the way! You really have to pull hard on the lid knob, or pry it with your fingernails (not recommended) to get it open. The airtightness of the seal is really important for matcha, sencha, or gyokuro, given how quickly they lose their freshness when exposed to air. This is expensive, without a doubt, but it is 100% worth the investment if you are serious about your tea and value keeping it as fresh as possible.
