Review This chawan is very well made piece of Raku Yaki. When I first received it I had a problem with it because I thought it should be pure black, but that is not the artist’s intentions. The bowl is more of a gunmetal grey (hey, they are all different since they are handmade and yours might be darker and/or black). It is very porous but by no means delicate. The art is meticulous, though, The flowers on mine are a bit more translucent and not as dark or as bright as the representation on the web.. I bought this bowl because it symbolized my state of mind at the time of the purchase. Having been recently widowed this bowl represented my sorrow and the light from the lanterns represented the light of hope that the grief would soon pass. While there is no such thing as having a timing for the bereavement process, this bowl is beautiful and well made and it helps me feel better when I drink my matcha from it. It has a special meaning for me and I’m glad it’s in my collection.
