KOHBAI refers to UME plum in full bloom with its delicate fragrance. When you gaze at this Matcha bowl, you will see multiple layers of precise craftsmanship and time-intensive work. The more you look at this piece, the more you will appreciate its beauty.

This work features KOHAKUBAI, red and white plums. It is the symbol of nobleness and longevity in Japan, and is auspicious, since plum vigorously blooms in the early cold spring, earlier than other flowers.

The background is painted in soft pink with expressive brushstrokes, as the gentle scent of UME blossoms fills the air. The plum blossoms are vividly painted using red, white, and gold accents - some remaining as buds, while others are in full bloom.
Looking closely at the branches, you will find intentional scratches to depict the random patterns found in nature. You will be amazed by the devoted craftsmanship dedicated to capturing the realism of the natural world. The artisan also skillfully utilizes traditional Japanese pigments, building up layers to add a satisfying texture to the white blossoms and the moss on the branches. Additionally, what makes this piece particularly charming is its slightly smaller, custom-sculpted shape, allowing it to fit perfectly into your palms so you can enjoy the paint’s tactile feel while sipping Matcha.

You can see KANNYU, a type of glaze and technique which gives the appearance of a cracked surface. The KANNYU pattern faintly appears over the whole surface of this bowl, which deepens the warm atmosphere. The colors settle into the tiny cracks, creating gentle shifts in tone and texture in each pattern.

This piece is undeniably captivating, demonstrating exceptional care and refined craftsmanship. While the UME plums are rendered abstractly using playful tones, a closer look reveals the remarkable technique and seriousness embedded within the work. It carries dignity. We are confident you will be impressed by the extraordinary dedication and quality offered at this price.

Elaborately and gorgeously painted plum blossoms unfold in radiant splendor on this fine Matcha bowl. Enjoy the refined WABI SABI aesthetic of KOHBAI ZU as you experience the fragrance of the plum blossoms with your Matcha.
