FUJI refers to Mount Fuji, which is the most beautiful mountain in Japan. Mount Fuji fascinates viewers all over the world. SAKURA GESHIKI means cherry blossom landscape in Japanese. This impressive Matcha bowl, features one of the FUJI HYAKU KEI or one hundred views of Mount Fuji.

FUJI HYAKU KEI are beautiful Mount Fuji landscapes from various viewpoints. This Matcha bowl features a view from MIHO no MATSUBARA pine field. It has been said, since ancient times, that the combination of SHIRANAMI foaming waves on the sandy shore and Mount Fuji is quite beautiful. For this Matcha bowl, the artisan captured the landscape at the time when cherry blossoms are at their peak. The combination of the SAKURA cherry blossoms, SHIRANAMI foaming waves on the sandy shore, and Mount Fuji are extremely beautiful.

The landscape of the sandy shore and the view of Mount Fuji from MIHO no MATSUBARA is elegantly and gently painted in the style of OGATA KENZAN (1663 - 1743). In contrast to that, the petals of the cherry blossoms are carefully painted again and again to create three-dimensional layers. It gives this Matcha bowl a sense of dimensionality and depth as well as a natural law of perspective.

Colorful patches of orange, called GOHONDE, are a traditional technique that add warmth to the atmosphere of the work. Iron constituents contained in the clay turn orange during reduction firing in the kiln. The reduction firing of iron-rich clay is a delicate process that is highly and easily affected by the conditions of temperature in the kiln, firing time of each temperature, cool down time and so on. It is said that it is impossible to fully control the contrasting density of GOHONDE even for the proficient artisan, so that GOHONDE is a little different in each work. It is also said that it is a part of WABI SABI which pattern GOHONDE you encounter.

You are able to feel the beauty of Mount Fuji and the great techniques of the artisan from this Matcha bowl. When you gaze at this Matcha bowl, you will feel as though you have been transported to MIHO no MATSUBARA and are viewing this beautiful scene in person. Enjoy your favorite Matcha in this fine bowl, and experience a sense of serenity and calm as you are immersed in this beautiful landscape.
