This teacup is painted with a brilliant yellow glaze and features cherry blossoms in full bloom, heralding the arrival of spring. The yellow background enhances the gorgeousness of the pale pink cherry blossoms.

KINURI means yellow-lacquered, and SAKURA means cherry blossom in Japanese. Cherry blossoms are one of the most beloved flowers in Japan. They are elegantly and vividly depicted in this work. The cherry blossom is not only a symbol of spring, but also the national flower of Japan. The cherry blossoms on this teacup are framed in gold, which adds to their elegance.

One cherry blossom and one leaf are also painted on the inside of the teacup. It seems as if the cherry blossom branches painted on the surface have grown to the inside. When you pour green tea into this teacup, you will feel as if you are enjoying a cup of tea at an outdoor tea ceremony while looking at the vivid cherry blossoms. On the outer yellow part and inside of the cup, you can see linear marks made by brush, known as HAKEME.

This Yunomi has a graceful aura that will enliven the atmosphere of your daily table, creating a truly extraordinary experience.

Tohan Dobuchi

Tohan Dobuchi was born in 1980 and is the fourth Tohan. He became the fourth Tohan in 2011.

The first Tohan opened Tohan Kiln in 1922. The third Tohan’s art was full of creative energy, as he was naturally inquisitive and enjoyed exploring new techniques and designs every day. He studied glaze in Germany, so his works stand out from other Kyo Yaki. The artworks of Tohan incorporate designs of flowering grasses that are found in nature. The third Tohan developed Tohan’s original world of glaze, color and design. The fourth Tohan has been developing new designs like HANA KESSHO crystal glaze lines. And these days, Tohan Kiln also creates beautiful lamps, tables and other interior designs. Works from Tohan Kiln receive a high evaluation from not only the ceramic industry but also from various other fields. Tohan Kiln’s unique works, sustained by high level pottery and drawing techniques and various original elegant color glazes in over three hundred colors, are highly appreciated and viewed with awe.
