Handcrafted Teacup: 200ml (6.761fl oz), diameter: 3.15inches (8cm) height: 3.54inches (9.00cm)
Traditional Kyo Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Yoshinobu Kawashima in Kawashima Kiln
This Yunomi teacup is a modern expression of an ancient Japanese design technique. The traditional design and the artisan's expertise are harmonized on the surface of the teacup to bring out the best.
SHIMA refers to the vertical stripes of gilding that are expressed on this teacup. MISHIMA means the stamp of a flower pattern. Two different MISHIMA flower stamps are decorated in a consecutive manner. The patterns are marked by stamp stick carved with flowers before the clay is dried, and each of them is delicately stamped by hand. The contrast between the powerful and refined design is well balanced and enhances the uniqueness of each.
The space between the two types of MISHIMA flower stamps is decorated with SHIMA gilded stripes. The modern SHIMA gilding of the stripes and the two different MISHIMA patterns give this teacup its harmony and style.
On the inside of the Yunomi teacup, linear marks drawn with a brush are faintly expressed with white glaze. This white brushstroke technique, called HAKEME in Japanese, brings a profound style to this teacup.
We promise that this SHIMA MISHIMA teacup, with its modern design and traditional Japanese techniques, will make your tea time more profound.
