BIZEN HITOKUCHI Yunomi is particularly noteworthy in our lineup of tea ware because it allows you to feel the materiality of the clay and enjoy the scarlet color of the firing flame. You will be able to enjoy your tea time more comfortably by holding a teacup in your hand that allows you to strongly experience the texture of the earthenware clay, both visually and tactilely.

BIZEN stands for Bizen Pottery, one of the ROKKOGAMA six major oldest kilns in Japan. Bizen Pottery is created in the Bizen area in Okayama prefecture, located in mid-western Japan, and is said to have been created in the late AD1100s during the HEIAN period (AD794-1185). It is believed that a major factor in the birth and development of Bizen Pottery was the collection of high quality pottery clay, which was used to make vessels in the past.

Bizen Pottery is characterized by the ultimate simplicity of the pottery, which is fired without painting or glazing, using pottery clay from the Bizen area. Because no painting or glaze is applied, no two pieces of pottery have the same color or pattern, depending on the firing process. Bizen Pottery is also characterized by its high strength compared to other types of pottery, as it is fired at a high temperature of over 1200 degrees Celsius for two weeks. Bizen Pottery is an attractive handmade pottery, and becomes even more attractive with use over time.

The art of Bizen Pottery was protected by the lords of the region in ancient times, and has continued to be a cherished ceramic art in Japan throughout history to the modern day, evolving to meet the needs of the times.

The name HITOKUCHI means a sip in Japanese, which refers to the compact form of this teacup, which fits perfectly in the hand. It was named by the artisan Tsuneki's wish that people would enjoy a sip of tea when taking a break. Mr. Tsuneki tries to create "vessels that make life a little more enjoyable when used in daily life." This Yunomi is thin so that it fits comfortably in your hand. In this way, we can feel the delicate care taken in creating this Yunomi.

BIZEN HITOKUCHI Yunomi is authentic Bizen ware that was fired piece by piece in the ANAGAMA kiln built by Mr. Tsuneki himself. In firing the teacups in the ANAGAMA kiln, he fires them to produce a gradation of brown and orange colors, with a matte surface, and the gradation of the color tone brings a feeling of warmth. The harmony of this gradation gives a true sense of the earthen brown color unique to Bizen ware and the scarlet orange color of the flames that are fired at high temperatures. The KOHDAI base part of the Yunomi is not directly exposed to the flames, and you can directly feel the simplicity and roughness of the clay.

BIZEN HITOKUCHI Yunomi is one of the most notable products in our teacup lineup, with its earthen texture and scarlet color of flame. With this teacup in your hand, we have no doubt that your green moment will be further enhanced.
