Traditional Yamanaka Nuri lacquer craft

This style of Yamanaka Nuri lacquer Matcha bowl is quite rare and exceptional, even in Japan. We have wanted to offer a wooden Matcha bowl for a long time, and finally, we are able to achieve this goal. The weight is much lighter than pottery or porcelain, and the mouth and hand feel is uniquely soft. The wood grain and warmth of the wood creates a gentle atmosphere.

This Yamanaka Nuri lacquered Matcha bowl is crafted following Japanese tradition. The wood is from the KEYAKI Japanese zelkova tree. The color of this bowl is black, so it is difficult to see the wood grain but when you look at the bowl from various angles, you’ll discover the beautiful and gentle grain of the wood.

An artisan produces this KEYAKI Matcha bowl with the attractive shape and calm texture backed by the tradition of the tea ceremony. The shape from the bottom to the side and top reminds you of the artisan's deep consideration for this bowl to comfortably fit your hands and mouth. The inside of the bowl has a matte texture, which adds a calm atmosphere, but also prevents scratches from the whisk while making tea.

This KEYAKI Matcha bowl has low thermal conductivity and it is quite strong and durable compared to pottery or porcelain. This bowl is suitable not only to enjoy Matcha, but also to use as tableware. It will expand in application depending on your idea.

We are sure this KEYAKI Matcha bowl will bring you a gentle and calm precious green tea moment.

(This KEYAKI Matcha bowl may have a slight smell of lacquer, which will lessen over time. If you are allergic to lacquer or do not like the smell, please refrain from purchasing.)

Specially packaged in a carton box.
