Made by Tohan Dobuchi at Tohan Kiln

Mr. Tohan Dobuchi was born in 1980 and is the fourth Tohan. The first Tohan Dobuchi opened Tohan Kiln in 1922. The current Tohan Dobuchi succeeded the fourth in 2011. Tohan Kiln's unique works, sustained by high level pottery and drawing techniques and various original elegant color glazes in over three hundred colors, are highly appreciated and viewed with awe.

SHIDARE SAKURA means weeping cherry blossoms, and these teacup are painted with the elegant cherry blossoms that are Tohan's specialty. The entire teacup is glazed in prestigious black, and the weeping cherry blossoms that herald the coming of spring are vividly expressed. The light pink weeping cherry blossoms that emerge from the prestigious black create a rich contrast of colors.

Cherry blossoms are one of the most beloved flowers in Japan. They are elegantly and vividly depicted in this work. The cherry blossom is not only a symbol of spring, but also the national flower of Japan. The cherry blossoms on this teacup are framed in gold, which adds to their elegance.

A few cherry blossom branches are also painted on the inside of the teacup. It seems as if the cherry blossom branches painted on the surface have grown to the inside. When you pour green tea in this teacup, you will feel as if you are enjoying a cup of tea at an outdoor tea ceremony while looking at the vivid cherry blossoms.

The reddish-brown color of the coarse clay KOHDAI, the base of the teacup, adds a discreet accent to the elegant and refined aura.

The form is uniquely beautiful. The top surface of the pottery is curved outward so that it fits the lips for easy drinking of tea. The graceful curves that extend from the bottom to the top accentuate the elegance of this teacup. Our SHIDARE SAKURA Yunomi has a graceful aura that will enliven the atmosphere of your daily table, creating a truly extraordinary experience.

Tohan Dobuchi

Mr. Tohan Dobuchi was born in 1980 and is the fourth Tohan. The first Tohan Dobuchi opened Tohan Kiln in 1922. The current Tohan Dobuchi succeeded the fourth in 2011. Tohan Kiln's unique works, sustained by high level pottery and drawing techniques and various original elegant glazes in over three hundred colors, are highly appreciated and viewed with awe.
The third Tohan's art was full of creative energy, as he was naturally inquisitive and enjoyed exploring new techniques and designs every day. He studied glaze in Germany, so his works stood out from other Kyo-Yaki. In the works of Tohan, they are incorporated with designs of flowering grasses that are found in nature. The third Tohan developed Tohan’s original world of glaze, color and design.
The fourth Tohan has been developing new styles like HANA KESSHO crystal glaze lines. And these days, Tohan Kiln also creates beautiful lamps, tables and other interior designs. Works receive a high evaluation from not only those within the field of ceramics but also from interior designers and furniture designers in Japan and around the world.
