We would like to introduce this premium confection, Houjicha Quinoa Cookies, made in Kouchi Prefecture, located on the south coast of Shikoku. A Miso company, which has more than 130 years history, made these cookies. They wanted to make sweets with their local products and a team of confectioners and patissiers developed it.

These premium handmade cookies are made from Japanese rice flour. There are many different types of cookies made with wheat flour, found all around the world. It is more unusual to find a cookie made with rice flour. Their concept was to make Japanese rice flour cookies with a crispy texture and original taste. It was difficult to make a crispy texture because cookies tend to have a dry texture. So they used pure tapioca to solve this problem.

When you try these cookies, you’ll enjoy the toasty aroma of houjicha and the right degree of sweetness of chocolate will melt in your mouth. Patissiers said that this chocolate brought out the best taste of houjicha used in it. Its recipe was carefully considered.

These Houjicha Quinoa Cookies are healthy, because they are gluten-free and rice flour is used. One cookie is only about 6.4kcal. And, as you know, quinoa is a super food. You can also enjoy the popping texture of quinoa, which enhances the crispy and moist texture of the Houjicha Quinoa Cookies.

These cookies are small, only about 1.5cm (0.6inch). This small size is easy to eat and this is one of the reasons these cookies have become popular here in Japan. They are the perfect bite-sized treat. They are quite addictive, in fact!
