Tohan Kiln’s unique works, sustained by high level pottery and drawing techniques and various original elegant color glazes in more than 300 colors, are highly appreciated and viewed with awe.

HANA TSUDOI means flower gathering in Japanese. There are twelve tea cups in this series, and different flowers from season to season are decorated in each cup. HANA TSUDOI tea cup is one of the most popular in the advanced line at Tohan Kiln.

RAN means orchid in Japanese. Three orchid flowers colored in white, pink, and orange are elegantly blooming on the outer face. Each petal is decorated with the use of paint gradation, giving the flowers a very realistic appearance. The golden color of the petal lines also adds to the gorgeous atmosphere of the orchid flowers.

The inside and outside of this Yunomi are glazed white and finished with brush lines, which create a fine atmosphere. One can see the natural color of the clay at the rim and base, which modestly accents the beautiful white glaze. Violet and green color glaze coat the outer surface of the white brush glaze, enhancing the graceful atmosphere of the orchid flowers. The white glaze coated outside the teacup is also used to express the white orchid.

The flowers and white glaze on each cup bring a warm atmosphere. We are certain that this Yunomi will enrich your green tea moment.

Tohan Dobuchi

Mr. Tohan Dobuchi was born in 1980 and is the fourth Tohan. The first Tohan Dobuchi opened Tohan Kiln in 1922. The current Tohan Dobuchi succeeded the fourth in 2011. Tohan Kiln's unique works, sustained by high level pottery and drawing techniques and various original elegant glazes in over three hundred colors, are highly appreciated and viewed with awe.
The third Tohan's art was full of creative energy, as he was naturally inquisitive and enjoyed exploring new techniques and designs every day. He studied glaze in Germany, so his works stood out from other Kyo Yaki. In the works of Tohan, they are incorporated with designs of flowering grasses that are found in nature. The third Tohan developed Tohan’s original world of glaze, color and design.
The fourth Tohan has been developing new styles like HANA KESSHO crystal glaze lines. And these days, Tohan Kiln also creates beautiful lamps, tables and other interior designs. Works receive a high evaluation from not only those within the field of ceramics but also from interior designers and furniture designers in Japan and around the world.
