YOHROH is one of the famous waterfalls in Japan. This Matcha bowl is named as YOHROH since the glaze melted on the surface looks like a waterfall. YOHROH also means "happy life" in Japanese. In other words, this Matcha bowl contains a wish for good health and good luck. This YOHROH Matcha bowl is very simple, but the artist has given great care to the details of the work. You will be pleasantly surprised at its quality.

Shigaraki is one of the six major old Japanese kilns and Shigaraki Yaki ware is characterized by its natural, simple style and grace of the combination of the clay and feldspar. The style of Shigaraki ware depends on the combination of the clay and the firing temperature of the kiln.

Natural glaze is also one of the features of Shigaraki Yaki. Natural glaze means that feldspar contained in clay and ash in the kiln causes a chemical reaction, and as a result, the part thickly covered in ashes becomes the BEEDORO color, which is light and pale green, like jade. The natural glaze melted on the surface both accents and balances the warm and natural reddish-brown color of this Matcha bowl.

Rakusai Takahashi, who is the creator of this Matcha bowl, controls the firing time and the placement in the kiln in order to produce the natural glaze like a waterfall. This work requires much knowledge and experience. However, this difficult process produces the warm and dignified atmosphere of this YOHROH Matcha bowl. Considering the quality and effort, this is quite reasonable in price.

The bowl is carefully and elaborately formed by skilled hands. The rim is not flat but uneven due to the fact that it is handmade. The rounded form is quite unique. Its form and size fit perfectly into both hands when drinking Matcha. The short base is also a defining characteristic. The short base adds a soft impression to this dignified Matcha bowl. The design of this bowl is quite simple. On the other hand, you can feel Rakusai Takahashi’s sense of fun.

Rakusai Takahashi said that long-time use brings additional charm to his works. The tint and texture of traditional Shigaraki Yaki ware changes day by day when it is touched or held in the hands. The atmosphere becomes more WABI-SABI. Please take good care of this YOHROH Matcha bowl and enjoy the changes over time.
