Sophisticated Kyo Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Kashun Katoh at Kashun Kiln

This Yunomi tea cup is splendid harmony between the tradition of Kyoto-style ceramics, which is called Kyo Yaki, and western design. The white glaze color inside and outside of the tea cup is well contrasted on the ashy glaze color, and lovely flowers are painted around the rim. The unique shape of this Yunomi adds accent to the design and glaze. The simple appearance with elaborate and prominent features enhance the delightful appeal of this cup.

HANA means flower, and KURURI means around in Japanese. The name of this Yunomi indicates that flowers are decorated around the rim. The pink and purple color flowers, with stems and leaves around the rim, bloom charmingly. Looking at this Yunomi tea cup from straight above, it seems that one white flower blooms elegantly. The frill is created by hand around the rim, and each looks like a white petal. Simple yet elaborate work adds warmth to this tea cup.

White glaze also adds accent to the tea cup. White glaze is coated inside and outside the tea cup, and the contrast between the white and ash color glazes is well harmonized. Ash color lines, which are created by vertical scrapes, also add superb accent. Looking at the white glaze carefully, the painting technique is different from inside and outside the cup. The white glaze on the inside of the cup is finished by brush and is very smooth. On the other hand, the white glaze which contains coarse particles is painted on the outside of the tea cup. The unique texture of natural earth outside the glaze brings a warm feeling once we wrap it in the palm of our hand.

This Yunomi looks very simple, but it takes much time and effort. The glazing technique and design creates a lovely atmosphere. Please enjoy our genuine Japanese green tea with this lovely tea cup which brings sincere warmth from the heart.
