Sophisticated Kyo Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Seisen Kondoh in Seisen Kiln

This Yunomi teacup is very unique among Kyo Yaki style, especially its method of painting. One of the main features is the expert use of white clay glaze. Grasses of HAGI sway in the autumn breeze, and their small, warm shapes mysteriously relax both mind and body. The curve from the mouth to the base is quite stunning and beautiful, and well matched to the white glaze.

HAGI means Japanese bush clover, and GASANE means piling up in Japanese. HAGI is an autumn wild flower, enjoyed by tea masters as one of the seven autumn flowers for some generations. Numerous Japanese bush clovers are depicted in white color on the outside of this cup, trailing in the autumn breeze calmly.

This teacup has several unique characteristics. Normally in Kyo Yaki style, white clay glaze can be used to make the earthenware white. On the contrary, HAGI Japanese bush clover is expressed on the dark brown earthenware by the use of white glaze. This is very unusual in Kyo Yaki style, but white color bush clover beautifully sets off the dark brown earthenware. The pattern style is called ICCHINMORI in Japanese. Its technique is to decorate solid or soft lines by squeezing glaze from a tube. The refined and thick lines and dots express the leaves of the bush clover in a rhythmic and vivid manner. In the inside of the teacup, linear marks made by brush are dynamically implemented. This traditional technique, called HAKEME, evokes the image that the autumn breeze is blowing in the fields. Finger line called YUBIATO made by the potter's wheel also adds to the subtle elegance of autumn.

The shape of the teacup is quite unique. The curve from the mouth to the base is both stunning and beautiful. As you enjoy your green tea, you can gaze at the aspect of the curve. The curve at the mouth and the thinness also fulfill a role to enhance the tea flavor when your mouth touches the Yunomi.

This teacup will lead you into the full bloom of autumn scenery, bringing warmth and relaxation to your days.
