Sophisticated Kyo Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Tohan Dobuchi at Tohan Kiln
Mr. Tohan Dobuchi was born in 1980 and is the fourth Tohan. The first Tohan Dobuchi opened Tohan Kiln in 1922. The current Tohan Dobuchi succeeded the fourth in 2011. Tohan Kiln's unique works, sustained by high level pottery and drawing techniques and various original elegant color glazes in over three hundred colors, are highly appreciated and viewed with awe.
MURASAKI of this name means purple in Japanese, SOHKA means flowers. Tohan gorgeously and elegantly paints Peony and FUJI Japanese wisteria. Peony, also called the queen of flowers, is a well-loved symbol of springtime in Japan. Japanese wisteria is loved in Japan for its purple color which is also called FUJI. BYODOIN Temple, which is on the world heritage list and located in Uji, Kyoto, is also famous for FUJI Japanese wisteria planted spectacularly and elegantly in the garden.
The teacup rim is beautifully flared, middle of side is full, and bottom is tucked. The curve from the rim to base is elegant and beautiful. Pottery wheel marks on inside and outside not only create a sense of rhythm but also make the teacup convenient to hold in ones hands without slipping. One can see the natural dark brown color of the clay at the rim and base, which modestly accents the beautiful white glaze.
We don't usually offer pillbox-style Yunomi like those used at SUSHI restaurants, but these Yunomi are painted quite exquisitely and elegantly, so we can't help but add them to our line. Because the capacity is rather large (225ml / 7.19fl oz), it is suitable not only to enjoy subtle flavor of high quality Japanese tea, but also to enjoy various drinks, for example, Japanese iced tea, fruit smoothie, wine or sake, or another. It depends upon your vision and preference.
These Yunomi have a graceful aura that will enliven the atmosphere of your daily table, creating a truly extraordinary experience.
