Traditional Kyo-Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Ohkoku Yamaoka at Ohkoku Kiln

This Matcha bowl represents the autumn scenery in Japan. Autumn leaves are in full glow; the leaves are dancing in the wind in front of waterfall. While the subtle technique refines and tightens the grand majesty of the landscape, the powerful, splashing waterfall is brought to a sublime finish by delicate, genuine gold rimming and raised enamel details.

The peaceful scenery of MOMIJI and waterfall are elegantly portrayed on this Matcha bowl. Sweeping autumn leaves branches hang dramatically overhead, where vibrant pigments reveal the underlying KANNYU beneath, evoking both vivid realism and a sense of fragility. In the background, a golden mist drifts softly, capturing the quiet warmth of autumn sunlight filtering through the trees.

The graceful and subtle white color bowls are called NINSEI-KIJI in Kyo-Yaki works. NINSEI refers to Ninsei Nonomura, one of the masters who helped to develop Kyo Yaki style in the early 17th century. His masterpieces are characterized by splendid and delicate painting, efficiently using golden color, on its graceful and subtle white surface.

You can see KANNYU, a type of glaze and technique which gives the appearance of a cracked surface. It is one of the features of NINSEI-KIJI. The KANNYU pattern faintly appears over the whole surface of this bowl, which deepens the warm atmosphere. The colors settle into the tiny cracks, creating gentle shifts in tone and texture in each pattern.

The warmth of the bowl lingers in your hands long after the tea is gone, echoing the magnificence of the natural scenery you find in Japan in autumn. The more time you spend with this bowl, the more you will be drawn in by its beauty. Enjoy the taste of Matcha, adorned by delicate and magnificent MOMIJI.
