The characteristics of glaze are well described on this Yunomi. The glossy green color glaze is coated outside the Yunomi, and the transparent glaze inside the Yunomi is well contrasted. The soft brushwork of flowers and plants drawn along the rim adds an accent to this Yunomi. The elegant glaze gives this gracefully shaped teacup a sense of refinement.

AO means blue color, KOHCHI is one of the traditional techniques, and SOGI means scraping off in Japanese. This Yunomi is vertically scraped, and the green color glaze coats the exterior of the teacup. In ancient Japan, people did not distinguish between the colors of blue and green. Both blue and green were known as AO.

It seems that this Yunomi is very simple at a glance, but it takes much time and effort. The Yunomi is elaborately scraped away, and the scraped lines create varying shades of glazing colors. The contrast between strong and light green color is very graceful. Very smooth and glossy surface of KOHCHI technique also adds an indescribable noble and graceful atmosphere.

The glazing method is also one of the focal points of this teacup. Two kinds of glazes are used on this teacup; one is transparent glaze, and another is green color glaze. Transparent glaze coats the inside of the teacup, and its glaze emphasizes the purity of the white color. Mossy green glaze coats the exterior of the teacup, and its contrasting density changes depending on the degree of each vertical curved line. The WABI SABI atmosphere created by the color variation of the glaze and the contrast between white and mossy green color creates supreme elegance.

The sides are vertically scraped away, to create not only a sense of rhythm but also shading of glaze. Hand-painted floral motifs inside the rim add an accent to the Yunomi, enhancing the effect of the vibrant green glaze on the cup’s surface.

Refined and elaborate techniques create this simple yet graceful Yunomi. The beauty and WABI SABI atmosphere will enrich your green tea moment.
