Porcelain tea cup, which has quite gentle and tender atmosphere like this SHINOGI MARU Yunomi, is very rare. Visual impression, hand and mouth feel, and so on are mysteriously quite gentle and tender, though the form of each part, such as the scraped patterns, are dynamic and vivid. The artisan, Ohsugi is one of the young up and coming artisans that have attracted much attention in Japan.

You will be fascinated by the vertical patterns scraped away. SHINOGI of this name means scraping away in Japanese. They are rough and uneven, which brings a unique atmosphere of Ohsugi’s work. Ohsugi says that he prefers the inhomogeneous to the uniform, as each pattern has character. His goal is to bring out the infinite possibility of clay.

Form of top, side of middle to base, and base are each dynamic and vivid. Top form is opened widely toward the outside, side of middle to base is narrowed down boldly, and base is designed larger than usual. However, harmony and balance, which are superb and fine, creates an elegant atmosphere.

The white color Yunomi is coated with glaze mixed with clay from which blue-green color emerges. The brown color Yunomi is coated with a glaze containing iron.

This Yunomi is lighter weight than its visual impression. It is easy to hold, due to the vertical patterns, the form, and the light weight. Ohsugi always keeps his mind to creating easy to use works. He says that he would like to create common-use works more than expensive artistic works, and that he would like to set prices as reasonable as possible in order for many people to enjoy his art.

This Yunomi will certainly bring gentle and tender atmosphere to your table. Would you touch Ohsugi's tenderness once?
