SHIRO INKA Yunomi (handcrafted Teacup: pair)

Photo Gallery

Handcrafted teacup: 110ml (3.87fl oz) each, diameter: 3.74inches (9.5cm) height: 2.76inches (7.0cm)
Sophisticated Kyo-Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Kagetsu Hara at Kagetsu Kiln

SHIRO of this name means white color and INKA means stamped flower in Japanese. This Yunomi has not only traditional but sophisticated atmosphere. This Yunomi is created by a technique called MISHIMA. Before shaped clay is dried, patterns are marked by stamp stick carved with flowers or another similar design. It is one of the traditional techniques of Kyo Yaki.

Combination and balance of MISHIMA pattern, white glaze, simple clay texture, and elegant form bring a moderate and gracious atmosphere. The simple texture and color of natural clay also appears in places where the glaze is thinly coated.

Flowers pattern by MISHIMA technique are applied to the outside and bottom of inside. Each flower pattern is impressed uniquely. And the inside pattern is augmented by KUSHIME which means marked by comb. The base is a unique tall and folding-fan shape. And a few lines are horizontally carved, creating a contrasting density of glaze. This Yunomi is thin and lightweight earthenware. The teacup rim is gently flared. The curve at the mouth not only brings gentle accent to the form but also fulfills a role to enhance the tea flavor when your mouth touches the Yunomi. The interior features patterns of MISHIMA and KUSIME, contrasting density of glaze, and drips of glaze. The interior view, one of the high points of this Yunomi, is interesting and profound.

The artist Kagetsu Hara has made use of numerous special techniques and efforts to create this Yunomi. Considering the time and effort that went into creating each teacup, the price is amazingly reasonable. You will certainly be delighted with these elegant and gracious Yunomi.
