The Japanese characters carved on the side of this Kyusu are "Hannya Shinkyoh" which is one of the most famous Buddhist scriptures. Though "Hannya Shinkyoh" is composed of only three hundred characters, it captures the quintessence of Buddhism. In the "Hannya Shinkyoh" it is written that 'all creation, nature, and all things in this world are ephemeral' and 'search for truth eternally' and so on. This Kyusu has a fine mesh filter at the base of the spout, so even tiny tea leaves (ex: Fukamushi Sencha) will not come out from the Kyusu. If the mesh filter is too fine, the aroma and taste can't be extracted enough and the filter can easily become blocked. Our Kyusu's mesh filter is the perfect size for all kinds of tea leaves.
