Arabesque Arita Yaki Yunomi
Hand crafted teacup; pair; 120 cc. each
Made at Masakuni Pottery
KARAKUSA, which is painted on the bottom inside of these Yunomi, means an arabesque design. In Japan, KARAKUSA is thought to bring prosperity and welfare and is of good omen, a symbol of good luck. These Yunomi seemingly look simple with a traditional design. However it is a complex technique requiring advanced skills to paint this type of arabesque design. And it is both sophisticated and imaginative to create an eye-catching pattern on the bottom inside of the Yunomi, which one can appreciate while enjoying their tea. And the shape of these Yunomi, too seemingly looks simple and traditional. However they are more narrow than usual, which plays a part in bringing a unique atmosphere to the table.
To enjoy different kinds of excellent Japanese tea, it is better for the teacup to be thin and the color on the inside to be white. Tea in a thin ceramic teacup is known to have a better flavor, and the green color of tea looks especially lovely against a white background. Also against a white background, you can appreciate the different colors of Sencha and Gyokuro.
You will certainly look forward to drinking tea with these Yunomi, which combine a traditional and sophisticated design and bring a soft and bright atmosphere to your table.
