 Meteor Stream Kyusu

Dimension: 350ml (12.32fl oz)
Sophisticated Tokoname Yaki
Made by Keikichi Koie
Mr. Koie was born in 1945. He is one of the most popular artisans of the moment in the Tokoname-Yaki industry.

He has aspiringly created sophisticated works based on traditional techniques, and has been awarded many prestigious awards for his art. He was also awarded a prize from a competition associated with Mr. Rosanjin Kitaoji, one of Japan's greatest artists of the 20th-century.
Mr. Koie spends great time and effort creating his ceramic art, which is one reason why it is so highly valued, and also a reason why he is such a popular artist in the Tokoname-Yaki industry.

Vertical patterns from top to bottom on the surface of this Kyusu are applied by using a tracing wheel. Few artisans use this technique, because it is difficult to create the patterns equally spaced on a round surface and to adjust among the strong and weak lines.
There are two ways to create the black color of the Tokoname-Yaki. The first way is to mix manganese into the clay. The second is to apply black color to the surface by carbon. The black color of this Kyusu is created by the first way: manganese has been mixed into the clay. This creates a rich, solid and high quality black color.

You will surely appreciate brewing tea in this fine black Kyusu, whose creator is held in high regard by one of Japan's greatest 20th-century artists, Mr. Rosanjin Kitaoji. And while you brew tea, you can imagine the night sky during a meteor shower.

This is the most popular and convenient size, 350cc, perfect for 1 - 3 people.
Specially packaged in a wooden box.
Lead-free. Made in Japan.

(Tokoname Yaki)
Kyusu produced in the Tokoname region in the Aichi Prefecture account for 30 to 40 percent of the market share in Japan. The Kyusu industry has developed in Tokoname because fine particle soil which contains a lot of iron has been mined there for many hundreds of years.
Tokoname Yaki artisans are traditionally known for excelling in the woodturning technique. The Tokoname woodturning technique is said to be the best in Japan. Tokoname Yaki can be produced thinly, exquisitely or decoratively.
Tokoname Yaki are made from fine particle soil and heated to a high temperature, so that they are quite strong.

(Directions)
- If the filter gets blocked, you can place this Kyusu in water with a little chlorine detergent for a few hours. The filter will then become clear.
- When turning the Kyusu to pour tea, you must hold the lid in place with your finger, otherwise the lid could fall off the pot and possibly get damaged. This is the usual way to pour tea with a Kyusu.
