SHIROTAKE KIKU Chataku (handcrafted saucer: pair)

This is limited edition only available in spring and summer season.

diameter: 4.92inch (12.5cm)
Made of bamboo

This is a unique and rare Chataku, which is made of TAKE bamboo. SHIROTAKE means white bamboo and KIKU means chrysanthemum in Japanese. As its name suggests, it looks like white KIKU chrysanthemum blooming in the field. This Chataku is carefully braided by skilled hand. The appearance like lattice is cool and airy. SHIROTAKE KIKU CHATAKU is not colored with ink or dye, so its color is of the bamboo itself. You will be impressed with its fineness.

This Bamboo Chataku has been produced in Oita prefecture, which is the largest producer of TAKE bamboo in Japan. High-quality bamboo crafts have been created from the past in Beppu city, Oita prefecture and they were designated as Traditional Crafts by the Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry in 1979.

This Beppu bamboo craft is characterized by sophisticated and delicate braiding techniques and skilled craftsmen carefully and meticulously braid each Chataku by hand. In Japan, this Chataku has reached the status of high art. You will enjoy the unique works and texture of TAKE bamboo itself.

Since ancient times, bamboo has played a central role in people’s lives in Japan. Bamboo makes a very versatile material since it is so light, strong and easy to work. TAKE bamboo is traditionally regarded as auspicious, similar to MATSU pine or UME plum in Japan.

We at Hibiki-an are delighted to offer this lovely Chataku at a reasonable price. This Chataku pairs beautifully with a Japanese Yunomi or glass cup, and enriches your green moment.
