KAKI means persimmon in Japanese, which indicates the vermilion glaze like the color of a persimmon, and TENMOKU indicates the unique form, which is a traditional shape of Japanese Matcha bowl.

This bowl is well planned and designed, though it looks quite simple at first glance. You will be fascinated by this elegant and graceful KAKI TENMOKU.

This glaze is called KAKI YU, meaning persimmon color glaze in Japanese. It is very difficult to extract this beautiful color of vermilion in a stable form. Even in Kyoto, only Kahoh Itoh can consistently create this color of glaze.

This unique shape is one of the traditional forms called TENMOKU Chawan. The technique called TSUCHIMISE, which means "show soil" in Japanese, is used for the bottom of TENMOKU style. In addition to this, a part of the rim is uniquely hollowed in a horizontal form in the traditional TENMOKU Chawan.

KAKI TENMOKU, which is intentionally a little rounded, gives a soft and warm impression. The somewhat rounded form matches well with the sharp vermilion color, creating a sophisticated atmosphere.

This bowl is lighter in weight than it looks, with good usability, since its form and size also fit into both hands when drinking Matcha. The elegant vermilion color pairs beautifully with the refined green color of Matcha. You will enjoy the aesthetic and unique atmosphere and supreme green tea moment with this KAKI TENMOKU.

Kahoh Itoh

Kahoh Itoh was born in 1963 in Kyoto. He had worked under the first Kahoh and then succeeded the Kahoh Kiln as the second Kahoh in 1984. He creates a wide range of pottery and semi-porcelain tableware. He is skilled at vivid color glazes like KAKI YU vermilion color glaze and delicate paintings. He pursues the ideal of delicate and vivid Kyo-Yaki. Vivid color glazes are typically difficult to produce. Thus his techniques are highly appreciated.

Directions

- It is best to wash this item using only tepid water or mild chlorine-free dish washing detergent.
- If necessary, you may occasionally use a chlorine detergent.
- Do not sterilize by boiling, or in a dish washing machine.
