The graceful and subtle white texture called NINSEI-KIJI accentuates not only the beauty of the bowl but also the plum blossoms. The more we look at this bowl, the more we are drawn in by its beauty.
NINSEI refers to Ninsei Nonomura who was one of the masters helping to create Kyo Yaki style in the early 17th century. KOHAKU means red and white colors, and BAI means plum in Japanese. Plum blossoms colored in red and white are decorated on the surface of the bowl. Upon viewing this Matcha bowl, you can almost sense the mellow fragrance of plum blossoms.
KOHAKU red and white are traditionally well-loved colors, used for auspicious events in Japan. BAI plum, the symbol of nobleness and longevity in Japan, is also one of the auspicious objects, since plum lively and vigorously blooms in the early cold spring, earlier than other flowers. So, this Matcha bowl is considered to be good luck in Japan.
Plum blossoms are vividly painted on the surface of the bowl with the use of red, white and golden colors. Some plum blossoms are still buds, and some are in full bloom. Its painting gives us an image of the mellow fragrance of plum.
The light green KARAMATSU Japanese larch, which is one of the auspicious objects, as with plum, accentuates the elegance of the plum blossoms and the Matcha bowl.
The contour lines of the plum blossoms and the rim of the bowl, colored in gold, adds to the elegance of this Matcha bowl.
Ninsei Nonomura’s masterpieces are characterized by splendid and delicate painting, efficiently using golden color, on its graceful and subtle white surface. Therefore, the graceful and subtle white bowls are called NINSEI-KIJI in Kyo-Yaki works. The contrast between the plum blossoms painted with red, white and golden colors and the subtle white background of this bowl emphasizes the beauty of this bowl and graceful and gorgeous atmosphere.
Elaborately and gorgeously painted plum blossoms are in full bloom. Once you touch and see this bowl, in which the elegant and WABI SABI aesthetic are expressed, you will experience the fragrance of the plum blossoms.
