Starter Set for Matcha Tea Ware

If you are new to Matcha, you might wonder what type of tea ware you need to prepare Matcha.
To enjoy Matcha with full flavor and the correct frothy consistency without lumps, you need the proper tea ware made specifically for traditional Matcha preparation. This Starter Set is the minimum set including only the essential tea ware you need to make a perfect bowl of Matcha. This set is not only reasonably priced, but also comprised of high quality and valuable standard essential tea ware, fine enough for tea connoisseurs.

This Starter Set includes a Matcha Bowl (Matcha Chawan), Bamboo Whisk (Chasen) with 80 bristles, and Matcha Spoon (Chashaku). The Matcha Bowl is the most standard shape and size, so that it is also perfect for beginners. The Bamboo Whisk has 80 bristles, and therefore is an excellent value, useful and long-lasting.

We recommend that you get the bamboo whisk wet just before you use it. The bamboo whisk is susceptible to dry conditions.

If you would like to add other important tea ware, we suggest our Whisk Keeper (Kusenaoshi) and Matcha Sifter or Hand Sifter. It is useful though not essential. Sifting Matcha before preparation is an important step to avoid lumps and create a rich flavor.

With this set, you have everything essential to correctly prepare Matcha, so you can enjoy an authentic and flavorful bowl of Matcha!

(Please note that each Matcha Bowl is unique due to the techniques employed by the artisan. There are natural variations in each piece.)

Matcha Bowl
- It is best to wash this item using only tepid water or mild chlorine-free dish washing detergent.
- After use, please dry thoroughly. Otherwise, it could possibly get moldy.
- If necessary, you may occasionally use a chlorine detergent. In that case, after using the chlorine detergent, we recommend you boil this item in water to remove the chlorine smell.
- Do not wash in a dish washing machine.

Bamboo Whisk
The bamboo whisk is susceptible to dry conditions.
- Wet the tip of the bamboo bristles with water before each use, prior to whisking. It prevents breakage during whisking because water makes the bamboo bristles more flexible and strong.
- The handle can also develop a thin hairline crack due to dry conditions. It is not uncommon for bamboo to crack in dry conditions; this is simply a natural characteristic of bamboo. Even if the handle develops a thin hairline crack, it should not affect the usability. We recommend you continue to use the whisk as long as it is usable. If your region is extremely dry and you would like to avoid the handle cracking, we recommend that you wet the entire whisk, both handle and bristles, frequently and before each use.
- Bamboo bristle tips are strongly curled before use. The tips will usually uncurl after the first or second use; this is quite normal and expected.
